Experience
Tutoring experience Last summer I worked at an AMES language school, teaching 9 to 12 year-olds English. My patience, open-mindedness and experience with children allowed me to connect very well with them and we all had a good time. I have tutored my peers in many different classes whenever it was necessary. I always make sure everyone understands the material well before we move on with group projects. I am patient and understanding but I like to push the people I teach. Everyone has the capacity to learn, we are only hindered by our own insecurities, so I make sure to encourage my students. To facilitate learning, I always come up with creative ways to visualize things and solidify knowledge. I make tutoring fun for the student and myself. Relevant Classes I have taken college biology, chemistry and math, as well as upper level engineering classes. I speak five languages myself, but I only teach English. Research I have worked in two different research labs at the University of Florida. One is concerned with plant genomics, the second one - with ecological restoration. The hands on experiences gave me a more realistic perspective on science and a great appreciation of the complexity of scientific work. Of course, I have gained many practical skills too. If you think it is useful, I can plan home - made lab experiments to help the student learn biology or chemistry.

Hobbies
I practice capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art which is played to traditional music. In addition, I enjoy fine arts and am good at it. I can draw and paint using watercolors well. Also, I appreciate long conversations with my friends or other interesting people over a cup of hot tea. My greatest interest is bringing sustainable engineering solutions to practice, mainly in the developing world. I am part of the Nepal team in the UF chapter of Engineers Without Borders and plan to build a career in sustainable engineering and environmental conservation.
