Travis C.
Private tutor in Miami Beach, FL
Education
I attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and graduated Cum Laude in 2012. I earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree with a major in English and a minor in US History. My GPA upon graduating was 3.72.
Experience
I previous volunteered to tutor at my high school after classes and I did quite a bit of SAT English tutoring during high school with friends and friends of friends. SATs: I scored an 800 Verbal, a 670 Math, and a 680 Writing GRE: Scored 167 Verbal (98th Percentile), 155 Math (55th Percentile), 5 Analytical (93rd Percentile) AP Scores: Honestly, it's been nearly 10 years since I took an AP exam so I can't remember all of my scores, but I can say that I went into university with the maximum amount of credits applied toward gaining my degree. Why I want to tutor: I am currently waiting to hear back from a number of schools regarding my applications for Masters programs. It has become a goal of mine to eventually work as a teacher in Miami, to try and do my part to help kids in this city to gain more than just an education, but a sense of interest, of curiosity. I think that’s what a great teacher can do and I know from former teachers of mine with whom I’ve remained in contact that the kind of engagement I’m describing is an all too rarified thing in the city of Miami. I would like to be help students experience that engagement with learning and while I think being a teacher would be an excellent means of accomplishing that end, I think one-on-one tutoring is another means that can be absolutely invaluable for students.

Hobbies
I'm fortunate enough to be able to say that my profession and my passion have come to overlap since graduating university in that I am a writer. I do a good deal of freelance writing for any number of outlets ranging from the Miami New Times to Eater to British Airways. Beyond what I do as a freelance writer, I love writing all the time and am currently in the process of writing my first novel and my first collection of poetry and short stories. I am also a big fan of older movies and older music, but above all, I am a voracious and eclectic reader.
